The History of Lake Worth Playhouse

The History of Lake Worth Playhouse

In 1953, the Lake Worth Playhouse was born. The venue has endured through time and has been around for over 60 years. Learn more about the history of the Playhouse and how you can enjoy a show if you have an apartment in Lake Worth.

The First Performances

Decades ago, the first performance at the theater was called “Springtime for Henry.” Without any air conditioning, the venue was not nearly as comfortable as it is today.

Including that production, there have been at least 340 plays and musicals performed at the Playhouse. Although the venue is non-profit, the performances are far from low-budget. In fact, the playhouse has a yearly budget of about $1 million. There are approximately 20 salaried employees who receive their paychecks from grant money and ticket sales.

The performances are exceptional, and this helps ticket sales. Typically, there are large crowds to watch the shows. This is partially due to the price of tickets. With ticket costs between $23 and $32, the theater is very affordable. Another reason for the theater’s popularity is the choice of productions. In 2019, the Playhouse season will feature shows like Hairspray, The King and I, and The Foreigner.
